Last year a buddy of mine Guillermo (Memo) and I made the commitment to do a "century ride" which is a 100 mile bicycle ride. We made the commitment because we knew that if we made that commitment and announced it publicly, then we would be more motivated to regularly ride our bikes, and get into much better shape.
Well, we did it. We entered and completed the 100+ mile bike ride from Irvine, California down to San Diego, California. Actually, we went over 100 miles because of a wrong turn, and ended up doing 109 miles!
I’m so glad that we made that commitment and completed the long ride. It took a lot of commitment and follow-through, but it was well worth it.

Well, we have just committed to doing it again. AND, I’m wondering if there are any hypnotists out there that want to take on the challenge. There is plenty of time to get on your bike and start getting in shape. It is time to use your hypnosis and hypnotherapy techniques on yourself and take your fitness to the next level! Next year, you can be in the photo (cigar optional).

It is kind of a long story, but suffice it to say that a while back I got the idea, "wouldn’t it be really great if there were just one hypnosis script that worked for just about everything?" Well, as a result of that idea, I put my subconscious mind to work on it, and one day, it popped into my head, the virtually universal hypnosis script.
I’ve refined it over the years and I’m offering it to you to use in your hypnosis session. I’m doing this because I understand how, in the beginning, you need some really good examples of scripts in order to do good work and build your confidence. Plus, even if you have lots of experience, there is always that time when you could use a little inspiration when writing up a custom script for a new client.

Before you begin using the “script” that is to follow, please read these comments, because this is really more than a script or hypnosis patter when you really begin to understand how you can use it.
Since 5-PATH® is a universal approach to doing hypnotherapy, it seemed that it would be extremely useful if a universal approach to direct suggestion parts of the process could be developed. This script is virtually universal because it is extremely flexible. In actuality, there could be no such thing as a completely universal script that would work in every case, but I believe this approach comes pretty close. It uses the idea of coming to a “fork in the road,” to represent a life-changing choice. This idea idiom is found in almost every culture in one form or another. It also uses the familiar idea of a “High Road” and a “Low Road” of which the “High Road” is universally accepted as being the preferable choice, which may require some effort, but well worth it.

From time to time I run into hypnotists who want to take our advanced course, the Week of Power and want to know if a Doctorate in Hypnotherapy or a PhD in Hypnotherapy would suffice to get into our course. It is sad that I have to tell them that it simply isn’t good enough from our perspective, and that those "degrees" should be avoided. Here is an exchange I recently had with one such person.

I would really like to attend your upcoming Week of Power course. But according to your website I need to be certified as a hypnotist or hypnotherapy by a reputable organization such as the National Guild of Hypnotists in order to enroll. I have a DCH from ______________ (in the USA). Would you accept that rather than a certification by an organization?

Thanks for your message. From our perspective the DCH is worthless. It is not a real degree with "regional accreditation". And we do our best to recommend that hypnosis professionals do not become associated with such non-academic programs.
I recommend that you have a look here to learn more about the kinds of problems that these "degrees" can cause.

I understand that such programs can require you to read many books, even attend lectures, and require one to write a paper/thesis/dissertation, etc. But they are still not real, and do not meet regular academic standards and as such, should be avoided. I understand that one can learn a lot from reading all those books etc. but still the degrees are not real.
With this in mind, we cannot recognize your DCH, and would have to decline your request unless you can show that you have had previous certification in hypnosis or hypnotherapy by a reputable organization such as the National Guild of Hypnotists.

Well, there you go. I am certainly not the hypno-sheriff. I can’t keep anyone from becoming involved in this kind of thing. But, I do want to put it out there. Don’t be fooled by these "degree" programs.
What do you think of these degrees? Do you have one? Were you thinking of getting one? I believe that they are deceptive and that when one holds that "degree" out as a qualification to the public, individuals seeking services will think that it is real. This is unfair, because an individual with this degree is not necessarily more qualified than anyone else offering hypnosis or hypnotherapy services. As a matter of fact, the hypnotists and hypnotherapists practicing today may be much more qualified and not have the degree.
Do you want a degree? Good! I’m all for education. I have both a BS and MA in Psychology. But they are certainly not required in order to be qualified to do this work.

Debbie Yaffee is the first to commit to riding. She says that she’ll do 20 miles! Right now she only rides 4 so that is a great leap forward. Congratulations Debbie!
Definitely not in shape to do it this year but am giving serious thoughts to committing for next. What a terrific idea!

Come on, it is not about what you can do next year, decide what you can do THIS year and commit to it.
For some a commitment of doing a 10 mile ride by September is HUGE! The idea is to make a public commitment that will get you going.
Use those hypnosis techniques on yourself and say “Yes!” The ride date is 7 months away. One can do a lot of getting in shape in that amount of time.
