For fear of getting on the Michael Jackson news bandwagon, which I am not interested in doing, I did run across this one bit of misinformation about hypnosis propagated by the spoon-bending magician Uri Geller. I just had to pass it along to you and set the record straight. (We may hear more about this and you will be forewarned.)
Mr. Geller claims to have hypnotized Michael Jackson and asked him if he ever touched a child in an inappropriate way. According to the story, Mr. Geller was attempting to get at the truth as to whether or not Michel Jackson ever molested a child.
For the purposes of this post, mind you, I am not interested in Michael Jackson’s innocence or guilt regarding any alleged misbehavior with children. What does interest me is the propagation of the idea that hypnosis is some kind of truth serum, which it is not. People can lie in hypnosis.
If hypnosis was such a truth serum, or sorts, we could just do away with the court system, hypnotize each individual accused of a crime and then directly ask him or her once hypnotize, are you guilty of this crime.
Enough said (for now).

As you probably all know, we have been doing some late Spring Cleaning at the Banyan Hypnosis Center and we have run across some real gems and we are letting them all go because we need the room for some other projects!
Over the next couple of weeks, or so, we are going to put some of our duplicate copies of the NGH Journal of hypnotism on eBay. We, of course are keeping one of each copy for our library, but see no sense in hoarding the extra copies.
We are going to start off with some of the most interesting, and most collectible editions?

Dr. Rexford L. North – Was a founding member of the National Guild of Hypnotists and the Journal of Hypnotists. Before he disappeared under mysterious circumstances, his work helped to shape the profession of hypnotism we have today.

Harry Arons – Was the author of the New Master Course in Hypnotism, a master work which inspired the certification program used by the National Guild of Hypnotists. As a highly respected founder of the profession, he developed the 6 Levels/Stages of Hypnotism used in many hypnotism schools today, including the Banyan Hypnosis Center.

Gerald F. Kein – Is a highly loved and influential master teacher of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. He is known as being a master proponent of the work of Dave Elman, age regression work, forgiveness work and more, including a spiritual form of hypnosis he calls, UltraHeight®.

Researchers at the University of Geneva in Switzerland have proven what hypnosis professionals have known for a long time. Hypnosis is real, and it can have a real affect on your body. Any hypnotherapist who has ever created arm catalepsy know that! Now brain scans are providing scientists with the kind of empirical evidence that is meaningful to them as well.
I learned about this in an AP Associated Press article. The results of the research was published in the journal Neuron. Enjoy!
This morning I read a message from Jerry Kein on his Omni Yahoo group. He explained in the message that he would not be going to the NGH convention this year because he will be undergoing electro cardio therapy. He said that he recently experienced a "sudden cardiac death" event, and fortunately he was sustained by an implanted defibrillator which managed to get him back "into a life-sustaining rhythm".
Because of this, his doctor is not allowing him to travel, and wants him to avoid any unnecessary stress or strain. He says that the NGH asked Bob Brenner to fill in and teach the classes which Jerry was scheduled to teach.
We hope you will join the whole Banyan Hypnosis Center staff and me in sending our best wishes to Jerry and his wife, Shirley, while also holding them in your prayers.
Jerry has come through these kinds of health challenges in the past, and I expect that he will soon be fit and among us again at the next NGH convention.
