Congratulations to the National Guild of Hypnotists who are now celebrating their 55th Anniversary. The NGH is now the largest and “friendliest” hypnosis organization in the world. And, the NGH has done more than any other organization to promote the profession, and to ensure the right to practice in the profession more than any other organization, bar none.

Damon2in.jpgI want to take this time to tell you about Dr. Dwight Damon, the President of the NGH (shown on the left), someone who I believe has simply been the most important person in the field of hypnotism, during the last 20 years. It has been under his leadership that the profession and organization has grown like never before, and along with the NGH, the profession has grown as well.

Let me tell you a little bit about Dr. Dwight F. Damon, who in addition to his many recognitions and awards, last year received the 5-PATHer’s Life Time Achievement Award.

Dr. Dwight F. Damon, DC, DNGH, OB, is a founding member of the NGH. It all seems to have started back in 1949 when he studied with Dr. Rexford L. North. According to the the December issue of the NGH Journal of Hypotism, Dr. Damon attended Cushing Academy, Emerson College and earned his doctorate from Palmer College in 1959.” In addition to the work that he has done in the area of hypnotism and chiropractic, he also worked with the government of New Hampshire under the title of “New Hampshire’s Magical Goodwill Ambassador,” and the NH Chamber of Commerce named him “Citizen of the Year.”

Dr. Damon is not a man who only works with science, health and business, he has also had a career in the entertainment world, working in both radio and television, as well as being an avid writer.

This broad and interesting life has benefited us all because his talents and experience has enabled him to lead the NGH in an extraordinary way. Our NGH President is an honest and straight forward man, who in my experience has always been fair, thoughtful, and humorous at just the right times. I owe him a debt of thanks for taking time out from his busy schedule to talk to me and help me to mature into the profession. I wish I could say that I have received any special treatment, but I know that Dr. Damon would extend that kind of assistance to anyone.

Here are some of the ways that the members of the NGH have benefited under his leadership:

NGH-Journal-12-06.jpg
  • Regular publication of the best hypnosis journal in the world since 1951 (shown on the left).
  • Established the affiliation between the NGH and the OPEIU, AFL/CIO and now serves as the President on the National Federation of Hypnotists local 104, which operates in all 50 States in the USA.
  • Established the Board Certification Committee of the NGH, and serves as CEO.
  • Established The Order of Braid, and serves as Chairman/Governor.
  • Build the membership up to over ten thousand around the world in sixty-three countries.
  • NGH now has, or soon will have training materials in several languages including English, French, Danish, Dutch, Polish, Japanese and Chinese.

Over the last 50 years or so our profession has benefited from the leadership of many different people, but I wanted to take a little time out to tell everyone about Dr. Dwight F. Damon. Dr. Damon, thank you for everything you have done, and congratulations goes out the National Guild of Hypnotists of all of your great accomplishments over the last 55 years. I know that we have just begun!

These kinds of organizations normally distribute power among the members. I find it a little creepy that this guy has named himself the Hypno-Fuhrer and holds every position of power in the organization.

    Hello Rocky,

No need to feel creepy. Dr. Damon has put together a great team. If you look at the NGH Advisory Board you will see some of the best people in the profession. This is also true of the Ethics Board.

Dr. Damon has set up a non-profit structure to run and opperate the NGH, and it is not all that unusual for the individual who is the most invested in an organization to run it. No other person has put more time, money or effort into the NGH than him, nor to I know any other single person who would be better able to run it.

    Thanks for your comment!

on the magazine cover above , who is the man ┬áin the lower left corner ? he looks very much like “Damon” who did a mass smoking cessation program at Phila. Suburban Water Co./ Aqua PA in Bryn Mawr PA about 20 years ago . while under , he mentioned i believe , only ONCE , that being a non-smoker would not affect the listener’s sleep in any way . it was the most relaxed i’ve ever felt in my life , did not want to come out . that night [besides ceasing smoking with no effort] i went to bed and was instantly asleep. this continued nightly for close to 2 months before gradually wearing off . at this point i’ve been an insomniac for 48 years and NOTHING – meds from ambien through xanax , 2 sleep clincs 20 years apart , other hypnotists , etc. – NOTHING ElSE has worked . i purchased a cassette by him tailored to sleep disorders but it didn’t work – nothing like him in person . can you help ? is he still active , still travel , to Phila. PA area and do a program for this purpose ? please help me – thank you . t.j. deluca
