Really great information, i like what you said that we don’t go deeper rather we go more suggestible, that makes so much sense, as deeper would mean they would go in to coma state and then what? Unconscious? And then again we cant say go more and more suggestible.
I like explaining my clients what hypnosis is with the information that you have on your DVD the truth about hypnosis, it is very informational and yet very easy to understand for the clients.

Admittedly, I am a chain smoker. I want to quit from smoking but I can’t. I am very busy with my works at the office. I am always planning to pay a visit to a psychologist to ask for some advice and tips on how to successfully quit from smoking but I really can’t because of my commitments. One time while browsing the net, hoping to see some tips on quit smoking campaign sites, my browser launched http://www.hypnotistgregory.com/hypnotistgregory/hypnotic_spiral.html . I tried whatever it said, simple things though but its quite effective. I even supplemented it with using my nicotine patches, but still I am still craving for some sticks.. Anybody please help me suggest links and sites wherein I could see some videos and read the most effective articles and videos in quit smoking?

Thanks for your comment. Do what you can to keep your interest alive. Hypnosis is real. You can learn it. But remember, there are no short cuts. You need to learn the techniques, and your clients must be thoroughly prepared to go into hypnosis. Make sure you don’t skip the pre-talk, and get someone who is an adult to supervise your learning experience.

It is always good to get one of your very thoughtful comments here on the Hypnosis, Etc. program blog.

As far as serving on the NGH Ethics Commitee goes, I’m just honored to do it. I’ve also learned a lot along the way. The expected upcoming changes in the code will be small in size, but can have a tremendous impact on the profession. I’ll let you know what they are as soon as the changes have been published.

Like you I stay away from making specific dietary recommendations. I like to ask clients what has worked for them in the past, and if they would like to use that diet plan again? If they say “yes” then I work on helping them to start and be successful with that program. If they don’t have a diet plan that they want to use then I suggest that they do some homework and perhaps consult a dietition or their physician. Another plan that works really well is to imply work on portion control, reducing snacking and reducing “empty callorie” intake. Also, as you know I’m a big fan of Isagenix and full body cleansing.

Regarding you thoughts about the use of different titles in our profession, the NGH has taken the lead by suggesting that hypnosis proffessionals adopt the title of “Consulting Hypnotist”. If you go to http://www.hypnosiscenter.com, one of my main websites you will see that we have photos of our staff, and all of our hypnosis professionals are identified as “Consulting Hypnotists”. If you read more on the site you will also find that we use the title “Hypnotherapist” as well. This is because in California “Hypnotherapist” is by far the more common term, and is also perfectly legal to use. The NGH says that the two titles are interchangeable and I agree.

Wiping out the title “Hypnotherapist” will be difficult to do in California as long as it is legal to use it. Right or not, it is the perception by hypnosis professionals in California that the title “Hypnotherapist” is more desireable and suggests a higher level of professionalism and/or training. When one takes the position of calling him/herself a “Consulting Hypnotist” some respond by feeling like they are positioning themselves in a disadvantageous way. However, I can tell you that we have have used the title “Consulting Hypnotist” for some time and we just completed our most profitable quarter ever. So concerns about not using the title “Hypnotherapist” are probably unfounded.

I hope you will be able to make it out to the NGH Solid Gold weekend in February. I’d like to talk with you more about this. Also that would be a great time to learn the Ultimate Recognitions if you have not already learned them.

Hi Cal,

I am looking forward to seeing the new NGH guidelines and wanted to thank you for your contributions and work with the ethics committee.

So far as practicing without a license, what about licensed nutritionists? When working with weight loss clients, I am very careful not to recommend any particular nutritional program, or even supplements, because not knowing a person’s medical condition, they could surely be harmed by taking the wrong thing or using the wrong approach. However, some hypnotists recommend certain diets or products. Would you speak to that?

Also, I think we should consider getting rid of the term hypnotherapist and only using the title hypnotist. As you mentioned, it varies from state to state as to whether we can use the term “therapy,” and I am in one of those states, North Carolina. It seems to me that it would cause less confusion among the general public if we all kept the same title, in my humble opinion. It can be awkward when people ask you what is the difference between the two. Just throwing that idea out there. What do you think?

Cal having seen your last comment I had to review the video again to check my understanding. Nevertheless was a joy both to do and to discover that I see nothing out of place, and I hope I phrase the coming text optimally. Part of what I remember was Elronn saying “Nowhere does it say that hypnosis is a mutually exclusive component of what creates false memories!” and after what you said Cal I think is as close to the truth as anyone could get. You did not however follow it by suggesting you are exclusively, and 100% correct so I cannot fault any of your comments because intelligent people are aware the human mind as we know it will not likely be a precisely measured commodity during our lifetimes, your opinions never said it was, and I hope I’m explaining well what I’m thinking?

I too would like to see what your anonymous? voice mailer has to say here.

Hi Cal and Elronn I haven’t had a TV for maybe ten years but it’s wonderful content like your video’s that may have reprieved my TV from an early death in the trash.

I am not certificated however I have many clients that have benefited from my work, and would certainly call me neither a Lay hypnotist nor amateur as one of our “colleagues?” described me.

I take it very seriously that I have saved at least one life who had a severed limb, and also delivered a baby both using only hypnosis. This was even before I understood that I had a calling.

I never knew how to deliver a baby anymore than the birthing mother understood she would have a pain free birth when I stepped in to give first aid.

I simply told her, “Relax I’m a hypnotist ( I was so exaggerating the truth I’d read only Dave Elmans HT)and expert at birthing as indeed are you with now a third child coming, and so is baby they know how to come down that canal.” I knew enough that Mother was in trance due to the stress of birthing in the street, and so I simply said to her, “Because you love your baby? You will experience no discomfort, so just relax now and we protect baby from stress. Can we do that together?” Now around 25, luckily for me the baby knew what it was doing, and the cord was not wrapped.

No hypnosis class could have taught me that which I received in the impromptu delivery room, in fact a South London launderette, http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/directory/1261/68095.php which remains unchanged except the telephone box outside used to call Ambulance, has long since been removed.

Cal I think you are one of the most perceptive hypnotists I have heard so I know that while others will not agree, “Cal Banyan” however gives us the distinction due, that we are neither “Lay” nor amateur while others need still to learn , “Your Attitude, not your Aptitude, determines your skill.”

Loved these pod casts and the timing is perfect. I think your comments about never giving up is spot on. It’s sometimes easy to feel like things aren’t happening fast enough, especially when you’re starting out. You can only fail if you stop trying.

Whenever I feel myself starting to fret about what I “think” I haven’t accomplished yet, I take a close look at what I have done so far. The “have done” side of the scale is always heavier. Metaphorically speaking…

Great advice from Elronn and Cal.

I have two comments.

First I am relatively new to hypnosis and I have a regular 9 to 5 job…however I want to do hypnosis when I retire…if I knew about hypnosis 25 years ago…that would be my career.

First…It’s easier than you think…Start with small steps…teach a course, give a talk, get a few clients. Do a little each day and have a plan.

Second…Get some self confidence…Try hypnosis yourself…I have seen a lot of people helped by hypnosis and I have used self hypnosis for some issues…however self hypnosis has not helped me with lossing weight…I am in the progress in finding out why.

Hello Suzanne – Thanks for leaving a comment and question. I’m a bit late responding because I am busy teaching the Banyan Hypnosis Certification Super Course right now.

I’m so glad to hear that you have found the website and have also found that the videos are useful for you.

Where I hear about situation like yours I think that either the training that (A) you have received up to this point has been insufficient, OR (B) there is a fear inside of you, and no amount of training in techniques and process will be enough to get you started. OR, it could be a combination of both.

You need to do some soul searching here. What is your best assessment of your situation, is it most likely A, B or both? If you need more training then watching these videos is an excellent start. But in many cases you will need to eventually get to a training course. Of course I recommend that you choose a 5-PATH trainer (Certified Professional Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy Instructor) such as Celeste Hackett or myself. You can also go to http://www.hypnosis-directory.com and look through the trainers to see if there is someone nearby.

If you believe that there is something inside you holding you back then I suggest that you find a 5-PATHers to start working on make the change that you need to get started in our wonderful profession. Consider this work that you do with a 5-PATH hypnotherapist part of your training. You will be glad you did. That hypnotist will also be able to teach you 7th Path Self-Hypnosis, so that you can continue to improve over time and work on any future issues that can come up in your life.
If you are not able to see a 5-PATH Hypnotherapist, I suggest that you get the 7th Path Self-Hypnosis program on CDs.

I hope you will continue to enjoy and utilize these hypnosis training videos. Please tell your friends.

Suzanne you sound so much like me hun. I know I’m good at this and will be great once I get going. I was top of my class and have a true faith and confidence in what Hypnotherapy can achieve. What I don’t have is confidence in myself because I have a fear of failure. I have just purchased Cal’s 7th Path package and am going to work on myself for the rest of this year so that next year I can get going in the field I love so much.

Thank you Cal and team for creating such a wonderful opportunity for people like us as well as the 1% and other highly trained “Hypnothyropotists” These podcasts that you give freely of yourselves are helping to answer so many questions for so many of us and for myself they are actually affirming so much that I have learned previously and questioned. This all compounds to give me a better idea on where I am going and what I need to do. You really have no idea what it does for me.

One day I am hoping that I will get to the US and attend one of your amazing courses so that I can meet you all face to face and thank you personally.

Suzanne, if I may offer a suggestion: let go of the need to believe that “you are good at it.”
People think that if only they could replace the voice that tells them “you’re not good enough” with the opposite “you are good enough”, then the problem will be solved and they will have confidence. But trying to believe that you are good at something before there is any real-world basis for that belief is the problem which keeps many people stuck. I think that is just replacing an irrelevant delusion with another seemingly more “positive” delusion. Why would I call that a delusion? Because if you aren’t doing the work there’s no rational basis for assuming that you’re good at doing the work. You might be or you might not be — in fact if you’re like any beginner in any field you will probably be pretty bad to begin with. Oh well. Just do it and see what happens. Then keep on doing it, changing how you do it based on feedback, and see what happens then. Forget being good enough or not, it is irrelevant and unknowable until you do it. Even if someone were to successfully convince themselves that “I just know I am good” before actually doing it, they are just setting themselves up for ignoring negative feedback and being blind to failures (areas of improvement). So here is a perceptual change shift for you: stop believing that you need to believe in yourself before you do something. Lose all prior “knowing” of how good you will be at something, and it becomes easier to actually do that something in the spirit of learning, helping others, while having fun.

I am a Hypnotherapist from Canada, certified a few years ago. Somewhere in my learning your name came up. I have been watching your podcasts, not in any particular order and cannot tell you how much I enjoy them. Thank you so much for providing the first class information that you do.
You have provided me with so many answers to questions I myself have had.
I have a question of my own if you don’t mind. This field I believe I was born to do. It is everything i am good at all rolled up into one beautiful package. Unfortunately I am unable to get going at full speed. Knowing what I know it is very frustrating for me. It seems to be a cross between confidence and deserving. When I put on my ‘go’ cap, the voice says ‘you’re not good enough.’ I know I am good at it and will make great advances if only I could get started. Regarding self-regression using TTT I only recommend this for people who are mature and mentally healthy, basically normal people. In this case the adult aspect of the the individual is always going to be able to process an earlier event better than the immature and ignorant perspective of the child. Yes, the event could be initially upsetting, but with some processing from the adult point of view I believe the client will always be better off. Also, everyone who learns TTT is either a hypnotherapist or working with a hypnotherapist, so if he/she needed help processing an event they have the ability to contact their hypnosis professional.

As to the idea of time tunneling for self age regression I would be concerned as with any self age regression that a client could go to a “bad” place and not be able to turn a positive outcome. In other words couldn’t they come out even more negatively connected? How would you approach it in such a way that they turn their problem into a positive learning experience? I wonder that myself=some would say that it is debate on the 100% safety of hypnosis. My point of view is this: If it is done naturally: I.E. through a meditation or by a caring and decent professional it is absolutely safe. We were also born with the innate ability to do it; so how can something one is born with be unsafe? I think there is also a difference between hypnosis and mind control; mind control seems to be about malicious intent. An example of media mind control would be advertising in alcohol commercials. Take a look at the commercial for baily’s for example; it is highly subliminal and suggestible “Drink this and you’ll be cool, women will find you more attractive ect, Watch the way the alcohol spills on the woman’s chest and the way she moves. Marketing people know that people have two drives pleasure & pain and am I alone in saying that it seems we are constantly being pumped full of fear, just look at the news. I think between hypnosis and mind control; perhaps they are two sides of one coin, you know? or the yin & yang, light side of the force and dark side of the force, you know? Something I have long wondered about are things such as eating disorders and the cause of them; I have wondered if there were campaigns geared more toward, self appreciation, self acceptance, love=would these epidemics turn around. What if people had a better self perception? We live a cultural that is saturated with violence, hyper-sexualization and seems to have become ultra-trendy and sometimes I wonder if people’s insecurities are not being exploited for profit by big corporations. Pardon me, if I am stepping on toes or sounding negative that is not my intention; I have observed for example; that ideas of what is considered sexy seems to be targeted toward younger and younger kids. I also see what passes for entertainment on television these days and it makes me cringe. I wouldn’t want to be a kid in society today;I can imagine how scary it must sometimes be, We know that a strong ego doesn’t develop until later in life and these kids today are sometimes being bombarded with not so positive messages and images, while trying to figure out who they are and what they would like to do. Is it any wonder, so many would have a distorted sense of self perception? Hitler was also very interested in the subject of aliens himself, he had astrologers and all that too

Interesting…The Germans certainly seemed to follow a leader who had them do things I don’t believe they would have done on their own. There was the crowd frenzie type of hypnosis going on also. How does this work in with the idea that hypnosis cannot make anyone do something they don’t want to do? It seems to me that there was brainwashing and fear in play also.
An aside, my 3 cousins were birthed with the use of hypnosis only in the mid forties to 1950. My uncle was a “hobby” hypnotist in FL!

My own independent research into the history of hypnosis-I believe there are references in the tablet translations of the Sumerian civilization, Also in Ancient Japan: it was called: Hsi-Men-Jitsu (Art of the Mind Gate) Hitler was probably knowledgeable on the subject of hypnosis; as hypnotic practices had a strong association with Occult practices and/or esoteric knowledge and he had people working for him who studied and supposedly used such things. Did you know that the word occult is not bad or evil-it refers to information which is kept “hidden” the word occult is misunderstood and has a strong negative association attached to it Did you know that the swastika was actually a symbol associated with peace, initially? The symbol was desecrated and twisted, becoming associated with the Nazis

Hi Celeste – Thank you very much. I was fortunate to have gotten involved with being “online” many years ago, yes, even before we all knew about the Internet. Now I use it to help hypnosis pros around the world, as well as promoting the things I believe in, such as being the best of the best in the profession with 5-PATH and so on.

I knew you would like Dr. Damon’s new book, Hypnotic Reflections. It is a great topic. In fact I am the one that suggested it to the person who was first considered to write the book. Then because of some difficulties early on in the process Doc took the project over, and really he’s the best one to write the book.
