HYPNO-CONTROVERSY!

• Are you doing hypnosis or hypnotherapy?

• Are you a Consulting Hypnotist or a Hypnotherapist?

The main topic of this episode is based on my most recent article that I just sent off to the NGH for publishing in the Journal of Hypnotism. In this article, I attempt to make a case that whether or not we are doing hypnotism/hypnosis or hypnotherapy is not really up to us! It is up to our clients, in particular, the condition that they are coming to see us about. If it is just a normal everyday problem (like helping them to have more confidence or eliminating a bad habit) then we are doing hypnosis or hypnotism, however, if they have a condition that has been diagnosed by either a medical or mental health professional, then we are really doing hypnotherapy. I think this is going to be controversial! What do you think? Leave a comment below!

Question for this Episode! When would you not use 5-PATH®? I talk about a few special issues such as working with clients who have come to us for improving their sports performance. There is a time to use 5-PATH® with these clients and a time when you should definitely not.

There are certain times when 5-PATH® is recommended for pain management. We get things rolling with an explanation of what age regression (AR) really is. Then, we go into how it can be used to help our clients. We also talk about how the Affect Bridge Technique is so useful, and some of the other age regression techniques that you will want to know about. We also talk about when you should use AR.

I also give some insider tips, tricks and techniques related to AR, which will help you to see why it is such an important hypnotic change technique. Here is a hint, AR done properly can lead to permanent change for our clients because it is an insight technique.

Like the title says, this week we answer a question from a hypnotherapist who is a regular viewer of our program who has some questions about working with a client who is "hard of hearing". There are some things you can do before and during the hypnosis part of the session that can cause these hypnosis sessions to work out very well.

Next, I talk about an excellent way to handle it if your client opens her eyes during the session. Use this technique and your client will close her eyes and go deeper into hypnosis than she was before.

I give you a great tip on how to troubleshoot sessions that are not going well, i.e., when a technique does not work when you think it should. Understanding this hypnotherapeutic approach can fix a lot of your difficult sessions.

Finally, I get to answer a really cool question about doing age regression and how to handle it when your client regresses all the way back to the being in the womb. This leads into an interesting discussion about how hypnotic age regression can be done to get maximum results. I think that some of my comments about this may be controversial! If you are interested in learning about hypnotic age regression, this segment of the our hypnosis training program will be of particular interest.

First, Celeste goes into the history of her niece’s problems and challenges. She discusses some of the things her family and others have done to help her without much success.

Finally, we get into the important information about how she helped her niece. I also talk about why hypnotists should be VERY careful about working with friends or family members. It is important to understand that we should, in most cases, avoid using insight oriented hypnotic techniques in "dual relationships".

Here are some of the techniques that Celeste goes through in this hypnosis training video.

1. Direct and indirect waking suggestion.

2. The Secret Language of Feelings and emotional expression.

3. Being a model who shows how to respond to emotions in a useful way.

Here are rest of the keys on the list…. 10 Keys to Successful Search Engine Optimization (Get Your Site on Google) – Part 3

1. (Covered) Page titles and descriptions should be unique. Every page on your website should have a unique title and description.

2. (Covered) Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it. Don’t get spammy.

3. (Covered) Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. You can use both.

4. (Covered) Check for broken links on your website. Links that don’t go anywhere are bad.

5. (Covered) Sign up for Google Webmaster tools. www.google.com/webmasters/tools This free tool has many features and statistical information for your websites on Google.
   

6. (Covered) Create an XML sitemap for your website and make search engines can see it. A free tool can be found here: www.xml-sitemaps.com

7. (Covered) Name your pictures correctly. Instead of “logo-large.jpg” use “hypnotherapy-in-orange-county.jpg”. Do not use spaces in file names.

8. Do not make your site or web page too complicated. Give the users easy navigation options. If it is easy for a person to use your site then it is easy for a spider (a search engine) to crawl.

9. Sign up for Google Analytics www.google.com/analytics. This is a great, free tool to find information about people browsing your website.

1. (Covered) Page titles and descriptions should be unique. Every page on your website should have a unique title and description.

2. (Covered) Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it. Don’t get spammy.

4. Check for broken links on your website. Links that don’t go anywhere are bad.

5. Sign up for Google Webmaster tools. www.google.com/webmasters/tools This free tool has many features and statistical information for your websites on Google.
   

6. Create an XML sitemap for your website and make search engines can see it. A free tool can be found here: www.xml-sitemaps.com

7. Name your pictures correctly. Instead of “logo-large.jpg” use “hypnotherapy-in-orange-county.jpg”. Do not use spaces in file names.

10 Keys to Starting Your Successful Hypnosis Practice on a Budget:

1. (Covered) Why you should set a budget and how you can determine how much you can spend, and other factors.

She also tells you how to get doctor interested in your services and why they may a gold mine you may not have discovered yet. She also talks about why doctors want your services and what issues will most likely get your referrals.

10. Get referrals from your existing clients. Celeste tells you how to ask for them in such a way that they respond and how to keep your business top of mind with past clients so they may think of you with referrals as well.

11. Keep track of your money with a very simple system. How to remember who paid you and how much? Also, how you keep track of putting money aside to pay taxes. Celeste offers her simple easy system for free!

12. Set Goals for your business. How to set goals and why setting goals will pay off

13. If you live in a small town consider moving. Celeste tells you why moving to where people have income to spare canl make you money too. She also tells you the top 5 cities and towns that may be hot for building wealth. Hint: Cal is very familiar with one of them and Celeste was blown away when she found out the top one. You may be too!

14. Learn how to manage your personal finances and if possible become debt-free. Why being strong financially in your personal life will affect your business and how to get back on track if you are not.

   • Additional training materials that will extend your training after you graduate, and should be consistent with the program you have taken.

Next, we check out the IT (Internet Technology) area where we have Taylor working on some Internet marketing projects. He and Chad (who is working the video camera) work full time on our websites. You will also see another workstation where our graphics and video editing tech works, but the chair is empty right now because we recently lost that technician. Hopefully, we will have that position filled again real soon.

Then we proceed through the Banyan Hypnosis Center, and you get to have a look at the General Manager’s office, who many of you know is Maureen Banyan, my wife, (who is the real brains behind all of this). She does all of the business stuff like making sure that the bills are getting paid, the taxes are getting paid and that we keep the money flowing in. (She also makes sure I don’t spend too much time just goofing off.)

We continue on with the tour and you see Danny’s office. He is our Affiliate & Customer Service Manager. We have updated the system a bit since I wrote that article, but it will give you a pretty good idea of what it takes to do it well.

To wrap it up, I finally get to answer a hypnosis question from one of our viewers. Whew, I thought that we would never get around to doing that. I talk about what it means if a client is snoring during a session, and we also talk about what it means if a client reports that she saw a lot of vivid colors during her session.

1. Place your desk facing the door with your hypnosis client’s back toward the office door.

2. Place your hypnosis certificates (and related degrees, if you have them) behind where you sit at your desk.

3. Learn a simple technique that you can use to set up a “halo of authority” and make your clients more suggestible and more hypnotizable.

4. How to (ethically) place hypnosis and related books in your office to add authority to what you are saying, and avoid problems with some “conservative” clients.

5. How to select the best recliner for conducting hypnosis sessions that will last and fit just about any size client.

6. How to select the right hypno-pillow for your clients, which is important if you do emotional release work.

7. I discuss video recording of your hypnosis sessions, and how to do so with two video cameras. I also discuss some reasons why you should start doing this now.

8. I share a brief overview of how to prepare your hypnosis clients for the hypnotherapy part of the session.

I start this Part 1 of the series outside and there is a little bit of wind and traffic noise. I soon move indoors and the audio quality is great.

From outside of the center I talk about why we chose this location for our hypnosis center:

1. It is easy to find.
2. It is easy to get to.
3. It is safe and professional in appearance.
4. There are lots of easy to find parking around the office.
5. It is close to an airport making it easy to get to.

The reception area is an important consideration. Keep these things in mind:

1. It should look clean and professional.
2. There should be nothing that would make the place seem “strange” or “spooky”.
3. Have an area where clients can watch the pre-talk video if you use one.
4. Get rid of those old magazines and give them something to read that will help them to be successful.
5. “Hypnosis is a confidence game.” Learn how your office appearance and advertising helps your client to go into the deeper levels of hypnosis.
6. How you should answer the phone to get the best results. Set a tone for success.

Celeste then asks me a hypnosis question about doing the Elman-Banyan Hypnotic Induction that came in from our www.AskCal.OurHypnoSpace.com. I believe I have answered this question before in either a previous Hypnosis, Etc. podcast or by responding to the member on the group. But since Celeste asked me, I go ahead and answer it again. Sorry for the repeat! I get the chance to talk about the importance of customizing the pre-talk for each client when needed. As I always say, “When something doesn’t work, when it should work, that means that something that should have been done before that technique was not done completely or effectively.”

So this is a good segue, as we go from our previous topic, the Ten Keys to Client Preparation for Successful Hypnosis Sessions, to this one, The Ten Keys to Doing Direct Suggestion Hypnosis Right.

Here is what we covered so far:

1. Do all the preparation that we covered in the last series, Ten Keys to Client Preparation for Successful Hypnosis Sessions.
2. Proper identification or the most important issue for the client to work on during the hypnosis sessions.
3. Determine what kind of behaviors they are willing to change or other changes that they are able and willing to make, so that you can suggest them during the hypnosis sessions.
4. Use modern hypnotic techniques like the Elman-Banyan Rapid Induction, and the Eight Word Instant Induction.

I don’t know how we got the numbers mixed up between the last Hypnosis Etc. episode and this one, but it works out pretty well because I think you wind up getting 11 Keys rather than 10!
So we start again with a different number 4!

• Use covert tests to measure the depth of hypnosis!
• Use convincers right, to show the client that he or she is hypnotized for greater success!

How to make your hypnosis sessions are more successful by taking care to make a good impression on your first meeting with the client, and keeping in mind that other factors also affect the session. Some factors that can make a good impression are your office’s location, appearance, and you appearance and much more. Make sure that you have proper certificates and related degrees are on display. Don’t go overboard and display unrelated awards, etc. This goes for both the home hypnosis office and one in an office building.

Celeste talks about her “sniff test” and we give several other pointers that can really have an impact on how well your hypnosis session goes.

We even give you some tips, tricks and professional advice about doing live and video hypnosis pre-talks. We talk about how I did my pre-talk video.

What do I mean by “going out on a limb”?  Well, thought about it long and hard, as they say, because I was thinking about doing a Predictions for 2008 Hypnosis Etc. episode.  Then I decided not to, and then at the last minute, literally a minute or so before the show was recorded I sprung the news on Celeste.  Being the great sport that she is, she said “go for it Cal!”  So that is what this episode is all about.

Next year we can look back at this episode and see how close things turned out. 

So now let’s get started with my hypno-predictions for 2008.

• Hypnosis will continue to grow and gain more acceptances by everyone including the other professions.

• The Internet will become even more of a factor in the promotion of hypnotism and for individual hypnosis professionals.

• Expect to see more podcasts and better use of Web 2.0 to promote hypnosis and individual hypnosis offices.

• Internet technology becoming easier and more and more hypnosis sessions are done online using webcams and such devices.

• More live classes taking over the Internet like we do at the Banyan Hypnosis Center.

• More cooperative marketing techniques will occur because of the Internet, enabling hypnotists and trainers to work together to be more profitable.

What I’d like to see happen in the profession of hypnotism in the coming year.

• More hypnotists and hypnosis organizations becoming more focused on ethics.  This is a very important part of building our profession.

• More hypnosis professionals going into full time practice.  This is one of the main things needed to help to grow and mature our profession.

• More professionals realizing that ongoing training is a must.  This is an accepted truth in the other professions such as medicine and psychology.

• Would like to see a real college or university offer a program in hypnosis or hypnotherapy.  It could be a major or a minor.  This will help other professions accept hypnosis and hypnotherapy as a valid profession, and at the same time offer a new level of education that is not available now.  The challenge will be to bring up-to-date information to the colleges, when tend to be decades behind in the progress of the profession.

So, what tips can a female hypnotist use when working with male clients? Celeste works out of her home and takes a number of subtle steps in her practice to make sure she is comfortable in all situations. Whether its following your intuition on a client that doesn’t feel right or keeping a Panic button within arm’s reach, there are things that you can do as a hypnotist to protect yourself and your clients. Also, Celeste share a couple of her past experiences with pillow purging and the instant inductions with male clients.

Celeste and Kelsey also discuss overcoming Kelsey’s hurdle of looking her age (if not younger). It is important that the clients have an accurate perception of who is going to be conducting their session; there is no reason to pretend to be older as long as you have a strong grasp of the material and the techniques. They also cover techniques to make you feel more comfortable as a newcomer to the profession from practicing techniques over and over to how to best use educational materials to build up confidence.

Then we go over this week’s Dumb Hypnotist Trick segment of the program.  This week we cover the importance of professional dress in the office. No matter if your office is in your house or in an office building, clients have an expectation for professionalism and if you fail to meet that expectation right off the bat, your client’s trust could be compromised.
