5-PATH® Overview Outline

Phase I: Client preparation, Induction, Testing & Convincing Work, is done to ensure that the client is able to reach somnambulism, which is required to utilize age regression and parts work to follow.

Phase II: Age Regression and Progression Work, to uncover causal and subsequent events related to the issue. This includes neutralizing the cause of the issue, neutralizing the effect of subsequent events, and age progression work.

Phase III: Forgiveness of Others Work, is done to remove anger that is connecting the individual to the issue and continuing to motivate your client to experience the problem (i.e., drinking or over eating to distract herself from the emotion).

Phase IV: Forgiveness of Self Work, is done to remove any anger that your client may have toward herself, and/or feelings of guilt that is connecting her to the issue or continuing to motivate your client to experience the problem.

Phase V: Parts Mediation Work, is done only when secondary gain issues are significant, and continue to motivate the client to experience the problematic behavior, symptom or illness, after the cause of the problem has been removed.
5-PATH® was developed as he studied many of the greats in the profession, including the teachings of Dave Elman, Gerald Kein, Charles Tebbetts, Roy Hunter, Harry Arons and others. Secondary Gain Can Stop Your Client’s Success (Their Reason for Failure): Parts Mediation Work Can Bring You Success When Everything Else Has Failed
Calvin D. Banyan holds a MA in Psychology and is an NGH Board Certified Hypnotherapist, and Instructor who has been published in the Hypno-Gram and has a regular column in the Journal of Hypnotism. Secondary gain occurs when a client finds herself in the situation where, if she changes what she is doing, or releases an illness or symptom, then she loses something significant. Hypnotize, deepen and test for the proper level of hypnosis.

Psychologically divide the client into two parts:

The Part that wants to change

The Part that wants to continue in the old way.

Establish your role in the procedure with both parts of your client.

Reveal the underlying needs, wants and desires of both parts.

Have each part recognize that the other part was trying to help fulfill needs, wants and desires.

Rename the Part that wanted to continue in the old way, so that it is consistent with the needs, wants and desires it was trying to fulfill.

Brainstorm ways of fulfilling needs, wants and desires of each of the parts which do not cause problems in the way that the old unwanted behavior did.

Derive a workable solution from the brainstorming work.

Reality check the solution.

Have the two parts which were in conflict forgive each other.

Have the two parts agree to the new resolution and meld back into one person.

I just got another email about an article I published in the National Guild of Hypnotists, Journal of Hypnotism years ago. For some reason it gets devotees of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) all stirred up.
I ask, "Is EFT Hypnosis?" and this really upsets come people. I even got a call from Gary Craig himself, the creator of the technique. He was very upset with me and it turned out to be a very interesting conversation. But the question was still left unanswered. (Well, he said it is definitely not hypnosis, but then he admitted to not knowing much about hypnosis, and therefore see his opinion in that regard pretty useless.)
The President of the NGH, Dwight Damon called me to, and said that he had received a whole bunch of calls and email messages complaining about the article! I didn’t mean to hurt anyone’s feelings. I just asked a logical question. What do you think? Did I cross the line?
So, with all that in mind, I thought I’d republish it here for you all to look at. But please, no more hate mail! I think EFT is cool. I just wonder if it works because of the reason Gary Craig says it does. Have a look…
"Is EFT Hypnosis?"
I have come to believe that EFT (the Emotional Freedom Technique developed by Gary H. Craig) is hypnosis. I first learned about the technique at the National Guild of Hypnotists Convention four years ago where it was presented as a form of meridian therapy. I did not care for it then, but I came across it again at the next NGH convention when it was presented by Marilyn Gordon. She did a number of very impressive demonstrations using the technique and I was sold.
After the convention I went back to my office and set about "EFTing" everything and everyone in my office with some impressive results. I became convinced of the power of EFT and began introducing it to my clients who came in to work on all kinds of fears, anxieties and some other issues such as cravings. This is where a problem came up. The name of our office is the Banyan Hypnosis Center for Training & Services, Inc. and as a result we get clients who are interested in using hypnosis to overcome problems and for general self-improvement. When I introduced them to EFT "a meridian therapy" my clients often didn’t know what to think. Some were in fact disappointed and would even ask directly, "Aren’t we going to do hypnosis?"
